Pumpkin Decorating Contest

Decorated Pumpkin Contest
October 26

You may choose any size or kind of pumpkin.
Pumpkins must be decorated & finished at home.
Participants may glue or pin objects, paper & material to pumpkin; you may cut designs into pumpkin surface, dress them up & draw or paint on surface.
Do not carve or hollow out pumpkin.


Please bring pumpkins to coop on October 26. We will vote on pumpkins and the winner will announced during lunch break.


Pumpkins will be left up during the church fall festival. Students may pick them up anytime after that. Any pumpkin left after classes on November 1 will be thrown away.

Fall Scavenger Hunt

As soon as the leaves change, we like to go on a scavenger hunt at the city lake park.

Friday Oct 2.
10:00 am
Haleyville City Lake

We will meet at the pavilion at the lake (near the boat dock). We will begin at 10:00.

We will spend some time doing the hunt and then a little art project.

As a community service project, we will spend a few minutes cleaning up around the lake. We will have gloves for all of the kids to use.

We will end the day with a picnic at the playground.

Please come dressed to be outside. It is usually cooler in the morning and warmer during the afternoon. We will also being walking around the lake. Please wear tennis shoes or other comfortable walking shoes.

In case of rain, we will reschedule for Wed Oct 21 with all details being the same.

History Fair

Our History Fair will be on October 26

Drop off/ set up: 8:45- 9:30
Judging: 11:00-12:30
Awards 12:30

Projects must be dropped off no later than 9:30 am. Any project not present when judging
begins will not be judged. Students will need to be able to present their project to the judges.
Students may work in groups of no more than 3, except for the paper category which is for
individuals. Classes will proceed as scheduled. If the judges need to speak to the students,
they will call for them.

Upcoming Field Trips

We have 2 field trips coming up in October.
If you wish to sign up for either of these, please email us, join the facebook event, or use the sign up list at coop. You MUST signup in order to attend a field trip. As always, all NHCH events and trips are open to all homeschoolers. Please feel free to invite friends, but they will need to sign up. Remember signing up for a trip is a commitment to come. If you are unsure, but still want facebook to remind you of it, please hit "maybe". Deadline to sign up for any trip is 1 week before the date of the trip unless otherwise noted.

Community Helpers
Wednesday October 7
We will meet outside City Hall at 8:30 am.

We will tour city hall, then the fire department. 
We will then walk over to the Sheriff's office.
We will drive over and meet at the Double Springs Park (behind the library and community center) for a picnic and play time. We are hoping to have an ambulance there at the community center for the kids to see. 

While all ages are welcome, this trip is targeted to PreK-2nd grade for our PreK community helpers week. 

Don't forget your picnic lunch for the park. Nearby restaurants include Jacks, Subway, and all 3 gas stations have deli/ restaurant.

Isbell's Farm Pumpkin Patch
Wednesday Oct 28 at 8:30am.
Cost is $8 for students and includes a pumpkin.
Cost is $8 for parent. Pumpkins are $3+ if you want one.
Children under 2 are free. Pumpkins are $3+ is you want one.
We will pay as a group, please have exact change.

We will meet at 8:15 and enter as a group. We will have a guided tour to each station as a group. We will have a lunch time at approx 11:00. You may bring a picnic lunch or order lunch from concessions. We will have lunch and free play time until 12:00. Field trip will end at 12. They will have more groups coming in, so you will not be able to stay longer.

-Pet baby animals in our Farm-Animal PETTING ZOO (chickens, lambs, calves, rabbits, pigs, peacocks, and more)!
-Jump and play in our giant INFLATABLE SLIDE
-Play in the CORN CRAWL
-Find your way through a CORN MAZE
-Climb our TIRE PYRAMID
